1939 deluxe coupe body in Tolar Texas
There is a 39 deluxe coupe body and frame for sale on Craigslist in Tolar Texas.
I have tried to call the number ( 817-559-1388 ) several times but only get his answer phone. Do any of you Ford Barners in that area know who is selling the car. I am a keen buyer. Appreciate any help in making contact with the seller. Thanks, Chris.NZ. Senior member. Tel 0064 6 755 0818 [email protected] |

Re: 1939 deluxe coupe body in Tolar Texas
Alan has the correct posting.
I don't think it's a scam. That project would put most people off, considering the work required. The price is up there a little for what it needs - but I have most of the missing pieces to complete the jigsaw. Just need to contact him. If I can't get through then does anyone on Ford Barn have a similar 39 coupe project ( standard or deluxe - that might interest me ). To $7500. Thanks Chris.NZ. Re: 1939 deluxe coupe body in Tolar Texas
I've seen folks try to sell cars they didn't own in the San Antonio area before so a person does have to be careful. I checked out a 51 Merc one time and the guy would not call folks back because he didn't want anyone getting his actual phone number. He would text using another phone. I found out about it on the HAMB after a member on there posted a warning about another guy trying to sell his car. It was eventually recovered by its rightful owner.
Tolar, TX is a little bitty town just northeast of Stephenville, Tx. It looks like its outlived at least one owner setting out in the back 40. He indicates he has a title so that's not a bad thing but a solid maybe. It is pretty rough though but I have seen a lot worse. Last edited by rotorwrench; 03-21-2018 at 02:27 PM. |

Re: 1939 deluxe coupe body in Tolar Texas
It's just a body on a frame - both need a bunch of work.
The pictures tell the story. I'm happy to buy it as it is. I like challenges - heck I'm 73 this year - don't have that much more road to travel. I like to get them back towards being roadworthy again - for someone younger to finish. Chris.NZ. New Zealand. |

You should see Chris's "gaff" it's chocker with these projects for "youngens" to complete. I've also seen some of the metal work that's been done on these "hulks"...nothings beyond redemption.

Re: 1939 deluxe coupe body in Tolar Texas
Yes Graeme - I know chocka means full up but what exactly is a " gaff " ?
Back in the mid 1960's I had a 39 standard fordor sedan which had to stay outside. I kept a small collection of " valuable" spares in Mum's shed. One day she ordered me to "get that crap out of the shed". Don't think I ever recovered from that. Chris.NZ. Last edited by swoopNZ; 03-23-2018 at 12:02 AM. |

I admit though that I like to throw in words perculiar to this part of the world and what we have inherited from our ancestors.... I see it as a part of "edumicating" each other on our differences in our common hobby PS: We had a nice young couple that were part of my athletics club a couple of years back, they were over from Bloomington, Minnesota...I had to "edumicate" them as well. They had lots of questions for me. GB

Re: 1939 deluxe coupe body in Tolar Texas
This is the 1939 Ford Deluxe Coupe body that swoopNZ is inquiring about. It would be an ideal car to import into Australia, as it doesn't have a motor or gearbox, or brakes. That means that the Government Asbestos guys here in Australia would not have to remove all gaskets, clutch plate or brake linings. (They then send you a Bill for their labour). It would come straight through. Guys importing cars into Australia these days are having the brakes shoes removed in the USA prior to shipment. If it is a manual car, they have the motor removed, so that the clutch plate can be discarded. Also all exhaust gaskets are removed. It is no fun importing cars into Australia with these strict rules, so by buying one like this would pose no problems getting through. Anyone would think that these parts were radio active? Anyone working on old cars knows that you have to handle these parts with care because of the danger of Asbestos. I can't see the rule being relaxed any time soon. |

So, what might it cost to ship that jewel to the bottom side of the world? DD

Re: 1939 deluxe coupe body in Tolar Texas
It is easier to import a bare body and frame rather than a running driving car?
The stuff I come across usually has no paperwork and the numbers on the frame are challenged with rust. Is that an issue? |
