Default 33/34 picivkup hood sides

When did the hood change to include the v8 emblem? I have heard that some early 34s have the 33 style hood. My 34 has no emblem and I believe it is the original hood. I suppose that Henry used up the leftovers before using the new design. Anybody have any info on them?

Does your PU have a ball on the spoon for hand feed or does it have a rod thru the firewall to the carb?

The '33 style hood was used on '34 trucks with the Model B engine. I don't know if they were used on V8 (model 46) equipped trucks early in '34 or not.

It's not a 33. It's a 34 with a 33 style hood. It could be that it's not the original hood. The truck came with a v8. Doesn't really matter, we're not going to the concourse. Just curious.

Straightpipes- I have noticed some variation and overlap in the type of front bumper on the 33-34 pickups. Alot of the 33s seem to have the painted curved or straight bumper and the '34s (like mine) the chromed straight bumper. I'm guessing, like the hood you have, this is not a hard and fast rule. Scott

Scott, Mine had a rusty painted straight bumper on it but I put a 34 car bumper on it. I like the looks of it. I think there was a lot of overlap with the Fords as they used parts up before using newly designed ones.......Pipes

There is a photo in one of the truck books (Wagner?) of a 34 truck with the Ford Oval Emblem on the hood side, but with a "4" under it instead of the V8. I have always thought that the 33 with 4cyl was only ID'd by the hubcaps but that 34 (more scarce) with 4cyl was
ID'd by the hubcaps AND the hood sides. The 33-34 V8's also have
a V8 emblem on the grille. Whether some 34's came with 33-style
hood sides is in the category of "who knows-could be."

Although I have 100's of pictures of '34 pickups and BB trucks I couldn't find one picture of the hood with the "4" beneath the Ford Script. However, here are a couple of 4's that were for sale on eBay over the past several years. Never saw one in person.
