From San Andreas. It's fine on the highway unloaded. On the way back - loaded heavy, I'll go through Niles Canyon, up the side road next to 680 -then through Livermore and over the Altimont pass Highway - through the Delta and into Stockton on hwy 4 then up 26 and 12 home. I plan to do it about about 9 - midnight. 280 miles round trip - it's not the first trip. My dad is gone and he has a lot of stuff I'm trying to save. I enjoy driving antique trucks. I have a big rig but it won't go up his windy road. He has a F250 with a 7.3 but it has huge rats nests all in it and i haven't had time to try and save that otherwise I might pull with it. But I like a ton and a half better anyway.

I'm not sure. I wonder if it is the same as model A cars? I see that you can get different ones for model A's

Different ratios are available for your 33 truck. How accurate is your speedo? You need to pull the turtle or wipe the top to see what's embossed on it. 19,20,21,22 teeth are some examples.

As long as it is mechanically sound (I'm thinking brakes) - should be an interesting trip. Best of luck, be safe and take your time!

Sounds like a grand adventure. Good luck.
I've attached a table from my book showing the various driveshaft gearing for the two different rear end ratios and tire sizes. I realize the table is for 1935-1939 full-floating rear axle Trucks but I figured it would give some references as the rear end ratios and tire sizes are the primary factors. The standard Ford chassis parts books are a bit thin on details in this area.

The BB doesn't have a turtle. Here are some pictures of the driven gear. You can unscrew the driven gear bearing and the ratio should be stamped on the gear.

Thanks for the info Pete, Model51, Bob!

My dad traded a 1932 Chrysler Business man's coup 6cyl for this truck back around 1994. They thought they got a screaming deal and I though my dad made a mistake but then I've had a lot more fun with an old truck over the years than I would have with the Chrysler - so - thanks dad!

I hauled a fair # of loads with this truck over the last 30 years.

Here's one I wouldn't do again. 20 or more years agao I drove up to a machine shop in San Francisco and they offered me this huge Leblond lathe for cheap and then loaded it onto the BB with the bridge crane. I drove down Hwy 280 to woodside and had lunch with my dad and then over 84 over the coastal mountains and down HWY 1 to Santa Cruz. I never went above second gear going down the mountain! I never let the brakes get hot 'cause I knew that might be death.

I'd like to find a king pin set for this truck on ebay. There are lots of them for '35 and up but none for '34 and down. I don't understand why.
AA- 3111 looks like it might be the part #.
Anyone know where I might get a set for the future?
I'd also like to find front spring shackles but it looks like the wouldn't be too hard to make if needed.

Bob - is there any chance that gear is something that fits a model A car? - or is it going to be super rare?

Last night I pulled out the speedo cable and oiled it and oiled the back of the old Stewart Warner speedo. Now the needle is nice and steady!

The gears are for big trucks only and good hi speed gears are fairly hard to find. The driven gear was reproduce some years ago but don't see them any longer. The drive gear fits 1932-35 and the driven gear 1930-35. The 5.14 driven gear is BB-17271-B (was AA-17271-H).

Chevy43 - Try Brattons Model A parts:
https://www.brattons.com/AA-TRUCK-PARTS/products/3/
They carry some AA Truck parts some of which carry over to the 1932-34 BB Trucks.
I've found that Truck parts are out there, you just have to search a bit harder to find them and don't give up.

The front shackles are the same as Model A rears.
