Original Condensers
I have about 25 or so condensers that I have kept over the years from varrious distributors.
Most, probably all, are no good and are about to be dumped. However my interest is...which ones are bonified original 1928-1931 condensers. The RG's gives us some clues as to what to look for...mainly with the late 1931 condensers where a small Ford script was added to the grounding tab. A few of these that I have vary in total length from 2" to 2-1/8". Some have crimping steak marks some do not at the "bus bar" ends. If painted...paint is long gone. Anyone know just how to ID original condensers? Thanks. Pluck |

Re: Original Condensers
If I remember correctly there was a wanted ad for old condensers. Probably about a year ago. The person was in the business of upgrading distributers and wanted to use them as dummies. Check the archives for wanted or maybe post them in for sale.

Re: Original Condensers
Steve,
The original ones either from production or ford service units had the Ford script on the barrel. The spec I believe is .23-.25 microfarads. Will have to double check my spec sheet. I use a ford Hester test set for testing coils, condensers, and strobing v8 distributor and can also run an A. The original Ford condensers fair well and and have an 80 percent chance of being good, however older aftermarket non ford units have a 90 percent chance of being BAD! I’ve seen the strap with and without Ford script. Hope that helps. I wouldn’t trash them without testing first . Larry Shepard |

Re: Original Condensers
Steve, checked out what I believe to be an original condenser, here are the particulars, all brass construction(non magnetic),dimples on the tube end where it mounts inside the dist.also a bit of solder on the lip of the tube. There is a silvery finish on the tube and no sign of any paint. The mounting strap has solder where it mounts to the tube, the Ford script is stamped parallel on the strip and the number 21 is stamped vertically in the same area.I do not know if it is good but I would give it to someone if interested, send me a p.m.
