Default Bendix help

My starter starred acting up. I push down on the starter button and the starter In engages then it's stops spinning the engine then the starter goes in a whirl before the engine starts. So I removed the starter and I found a center part broken I can't find it in the parts catalogs. What is it? What is it called? I don't have much bendix experience the starter has been in the car since I've owned it for 23 years

I found an NOS repair sleeve years ago on ebay, but don't know of any others available. The sleeve is for the spring to ride against when it gets engaged and tries to pull in to a smaller diameter. If the sleeve is cracked, as most are, but it's still all there and stays in place, you'll get by OK. I think you'll have to buy a new or good used drive, as your sleeve looks to be too far gone.

Bert's most likely has a part for you. 800-321-1931

Buying the entire Bendix set-up at a swap meet is common. Usually you can get one for anywhere from $5.00 to about $15.00
