I have also ridden the "cog railway" when coal fired (part of the excitement), with smoke and small cinders coming thru the open windows. Usually very cold and windy, even in the hot/humid summer at the top of the mount. On the other side of the mountain is a road from the bottom to the top of the mountain, along wiith hiking trails. Many cars in new England and elsewhere carry a bumper sticker that states that "this care climbed Mt Washington".

Here is the Cog that does the work. A couple of years ago they introduced Biodiesel trains to the line.
