I am trying to remove the trunk handle on my 48 merc. coup and need to know what size the nut is as I have to make a crows foot tool to get it apart. looks like about 1 inch can some one tell me the proper size Pat

Dont know the size. However when I removed mine I just used a long screwdriver with a broad flat blade and a hammer. Came loose ok then used fingers for final bit.
Reverse for assembly.

Should be the same as Ford. My '40 takes a 9/16 socket

That big nut is 1 5/8" across the flats. Takes a big spanner.
