Default two questions about my 36' coupe. . .

i'm starting to reassemble my project car to see how things are going to line up
and i've got a couple of questions. . .

1. brand new bob drake running boards, what goes between the frame and the running board?

2. where the headlight mounts, it's a kind or a stand that bolts to the frame, fender sits on top, headlight on top of fender. . . .i have rubber gaskets that go between headlight base and fender. is there a rubber insulator between support bracket and the underside of fender? metal on metal? doesn't sound good to me. thanks for anything you can tell me, kurt.

Good morning Kurt,

Do you have the 35/36 Ford book? It is a great book for seeing detail on the small stuff. If you don't get your answers I will check my book when I get home from work.

It has been quite some time since I removed, re-installed a headlight assembly on a '36, however, the headlight is adjusted up/down, left/right via the ball shaped mount to the fender, I don't recall any insulators, rubber etc., between the headlight mounting brackets and the fender/bucket.

The 35-36 Ford book makes no mention of insulators, the same is true of the running boards, book states 'bolted directly to the fame. Don't over-think the installation.

1. Fender welting goes between running board and frame.
2. The only rubber pad (13130) used in the headlamp mounting goes between the headlamp socket plate and the top of the fender. All other components are metal to metal.

thanks for your replies. as for as the running board welt, these running boards had never been removed and there was some residue. it was very thin with a very small bead, not like fender welt at all. very hard for me to describe, maybe tar impregnated paper? the bead 1/8" at the most. more like 3/32". the strip itself was thinner that single ply shoe box card board. i'm going to look for a piece, i kept a bit of it just because of it's strangeness. could be gone now though.
