Hell, the BESTEST way to look "cool" with one (or even two) yet have it (them) NOT leak or blow oil out is to drill and mount vent to the pan, WITHOUT cutting the big hole for the "breathing". ALMOST as bad as puttin' a sock in your pants, though. DD |

You must mean the "fake vent" trick, right? If you must know, I always went to school barefoot 'cuz my family was so poor that we sure couldn't afford shoes or SOCKS for us kids! DD |

Re: Oil pump p/up to pan clearance
Put the pan on without the gasket. Strike the bottom of the pan to adjust pickup. Now put the gasket in. Perfect clearance.

Re: Oil pump p/up to pan clearance
A compressed gasket is, what .040" thick? That oughta be plenty.

Re: Oil pump p/up to pan clearance
And when you crack the typical braze weld from the pickup tube to the oil-pump bolt flange - then the pickup falls off and you buy a new engine . . . yippee!

Re: Oil pump p/up to pan clearance
Here is photo of a breather installation from Vern Tardel's book. The Offy breather has a baffle inside the oil pan. Good to hear from Ron that when used in stock car racing they had no problems with the breaher. Could be the engine in the oil mist example had some blow by.
