Paint problem
I walked into the garage and saw a large flake of paint next to the front tire. I saw there were other large flakes hanging down. I pulled and all the paint fell from the underside of the fender. You can see from the photos how large the paint flakes are. In the second photo, you can see how clean the underside of the fender is.
My problem is the owner didn't give me the information on the folks that painted the car before he died. I know the job was done near Atlanta, Ga. around 2009. I sure hope one of the members can help with this riddle. Thanks in advance. Bobby Last edited by NCRebel; 03-05-2018 at 07:30 AM. |

Re: Paint problem
By the appearance of the metal, it looks like a repo fender that was not properly prepped. I dont see any abasive marks. What does the other side of the paint look like? Is it a primer, or the same color as the top. We need more info.

Re: Paint problem
No matter who painted it, after 9 years there is no guarantee. Take it to a competent body shop for repair. If it is a driver, you may want to strip all the underside and coat with truck bedliner. If the underside looks like that, I would be worried about the top side.

Re: Paint problem
As a military trained airframe/powertrain repair (Helicopters 1970's) I understand what caused the problem. I also understand that after nine years, all bets are off with a guarantee on the paint job. I just wanted others to know that sloppy prep work will return to bite you in the rear.
I have a local guy that I trust to make the fender's paint whole again. Russ, the bottom (contact to metal) side of the flakes are a flat black. There is an abrasive area near the spare tire well nearest the body but all else is smooth as a newborns ... five o'clock shadow. |

Re: Paint problem
Well Russ, step 1, cuss - check. Step 2, photo and post - check. Step 3, allot time, grab wrench, remove fender, call buddy, deliver fender, wait, wait, pray, wait.
Step 4, pay buddy lots of cash and beer and reverse step 3 and step 1. I'll get back to the group. |

Re: Paint problem
I would put it up on a hoist and take a pressure washer to it and hope all the underside paint pops right off.
