Default 49 Mercury Speedometer ?

My Odometer is working but the speedometer isn’t, Don’t they work off of the same cable ? How can I get the speedometer working?

in side the speedometer they are bushing on the main shift. over years they get dry. you have to take the speedometer all apart and clear them. That will let the shift turn free. Email me at the email in the post. papanick

It could be something wrong with the drag cup too. In any case, the speedo should come out for service. repair, or replacement. The magnet shaft bushing may have an oiler access on the outside of the case where the cable drive attaches. Some have a tiny soft plug that covers the oiler wick bore like my 1951 Merc speedos have. I'm not all that familiar with the 49 though.
