Default Remove Front Inner Wheel Bearing Race

How should the front inner bearing race be removed? I have tried tapping it out. The exposed lip of the race is very small. Once it moves a little, the lip becomes hidden by the hub seat and very hard to hit. How have you removed them?

If you are not going to use them again you can weld a bead on the inside where the bearing runs, turn over while hot and it will fall out every time.

Thank you. I do not plan to reuse them - except to tap in the new races. I will weld them this week and let you know.

I agree with "bdotson". We use a mig and run a small bead on the race. Works every time.

You might ask at your local chapter someone may have the KR Wilson A304 small race puller. That was how Ford did it.

The welding bit will work, but, if you have access to a welder then driving them out with a punch and a big-a$$ hammer is the old stand-by..

on the inside of the hub or drum where the back of the race stops isnt there two notches cut there? across from each other? most drums and hubs have them, run your finger around the back side of the hole where the race is, if they are there you can feel them, the notches are about 1/2" wide, put the end of a long slim punch in one of the notches and drive out the race, drive one side then the other, if the hub doesnt have the notches sorry for taking up space on this post

ford1 you are correct about removal of the OUTER Race in the hub or drum. Bill is talking about the removal of the Inner Race on the spindle. Smile!

Ooops, good point !! If a couple lady slippers won't pull that bearing then heating a spot on the race red hot with a 'real' torch and then whacking the hot spot with two hammers[one peen on the hot spot and hitting the first hammer with the second] will stretch the race hopefully far enough for it to come off easily..
