Default 1948 Mercury - 4 mystery holes

1948 Mercury - What brackets are attached to these 4 holes on the right side of picture of the tray located in front of the Radiator on this 1948 Mercury.
Is it some kind of brace to support the Crank Handle?
Can anyone help with a picture of this missing part?

On my very original ‘46 Mercury, there was nothing there. I wondered the same thing, but I’m assuming the holes were not used.

Bruce, Thanks for your reply.
I got the following relies from friends in our local Early Ford V8 Club:-

I have checked the 'Chassis Parts Manual ' ,, the apron panel is drilled with the 4 holes but shows no bracket for same. There is a guide bracket for the crank handle part no# 8265 which is located at the rear of the apron panel.
Cheers, John Mc

None of my 5 Mercurys have anything attached just 4 holes, even the Aussie ute. Mind you I only have 46 and 47 no 48 cheers Graham

No luck with those holes. My brother in law in NZ says that he has two original front clips, Canadian, and neither have anything fitted there. He thinks that it was probably for an abandoned Henry idea!

In answer to your question, nothing lives in those 4 holes....Here is a photo I just took looking at my 49,000 original miles unmolested Merc Sedan. Cheers Dave.

The 59A-8224 "Shield, radiator grill to apron support and reinforcement assy." is clearly pictured in the 1938 to1946 Red Book, with out anything in the four holes. I know we are talking 1948 Mercury here but I can't imagine it would be different in 1948. Might be one of those Ford mysteries.
