Front end alignment
My Les Andrews Mechanics Handbook lists:
Caster 5deg Toe-in 1/16" +- 1/32 How about camber?? I realize it can only be re-set by bending the axle. I'm having bad wear on 215 70R16 tires on the front outside edge. I'll have to re-adjust the toe-in as it is currently 1/4". But the Camber looks excessive to me. With a level top to bottom, the bottom of the tire is 5/8-3/4 inch from level tipped in at the bottom. Camber measures +2deg one side and +1.25deg the other side. |

With such wide low profile tires you will have to modify your toe specs, and camber from stock. Toe problems wear tires very fast. I am driving a Mercedes that was lowered (not by me),the rear camber is -2 1/2 degrees and it does not wear tires.
Too much difference in camber can cause a pull, and with such wide tires something around 3/4-1 degree is more normal, and depending on your wheel offset the toe requirements can change. |

Make sure your king-pins are not sloppy. 0 to +1/2* on the right front (in North America) and +1/2* to +1* on the left front is all that is required to keep the Model A going straight down the road. On toe-in, 1/16" is plenty.

Since the header of the first post says says Front end alignment... Just toe-in; a 1/16". Not camber which is what? Controlled by bending the axle? [Look at the camber on a Model 'T'] And caster at 5 deg. is all ball and radius arms. [And not the rubber ball] Some things are just better left alone. Factory specs nice but not always doable without too much work IMHO. Can't be That far out and still able to be driven down the road comfortably. skip. Last edited by skip; 06-13-2010 at 08:45 AM. |

1/4 toe-in seems excessive. 1/16 is about right.

Everything I have seen and read about Camber is that the CENTER of the tire should hit the road at the same point as the angle of the king pin (both angles at the same point at the road). Smaller diameter tires will cause this to be different than what was designed. The only way to get it correct is by trial and error bending of the axle. I'm not the Engineer that can figure the correct angle.
