Default 0 compression in #1 reason

Tom was right. I put the head back on and did the leak test using my compressor. #1 valve is leaking. I removed the side cover and found that #1 intake valve does not close. How could this have happened in 50 miles, and how can I keep it from happening again?

If the spring is broken or weak, if the valve guide does not enough clearance or has a spot which does not let the valve slide in it as designed could cause your problem. See if you can get the valve to move with a little persuasion. With cam lobe in the closed position for that valve see if you can tap it down with a piece of brass as close to center as possible. It is easy to bend the tulip portion of a valve if you are not careful in tapping it. If not you will want to remove the valve and guide downward to release the halves of the guides and then remove the valve from above. Good luck.

It could very well be another reason for that valve not closing mentioned in the original post.

Look at the adjustment screws on the lifters and see if they are single lock or double lock. I have many times posted about the single lock adjusters coming out of adjustment at the worst times. The double lock lifters are just slightly harder to adjust but will never come out of adjustment. To cure the problem, you can replace the single locks with a new set of double locks or, you can run the screw up enough to get several threads above where they enter the body and fowl the threads with a hammer and chisel or vice grips to bugger the threads. These would be about the only remedy.

The post of 4/14/2013 #2. Sometimes it just doesn't pay. I'm done.

Thanks James. Tomorrow I'll remove the bolt in #1 intake and mess up a couple of threads. In case I go too far, what size are the threads so I can make repairs with my dies or thread file.
