Growling noise when clutch is engaged
I took my car on a 100 mile drive. It ran great. The next time I tried to move it, I had issues.
When I press the clutch pedal, there is a loud growling noise. There is also a huge load on the engine and I can tell that the RPM is dropping and it's going to die. I release the clutch and everything is normal. Sounds like a frozen throw out bearing. I swapped the throw out and pilot bearings. Neither looked bad. It still does the same thing. I check end play on the crankshaft and its minimal. Does anybody have any ideas? |

Re: Growling noise when clutch is engaged
Maybe to much crank end play and the flywheel or starter ring gear is being
pushed into a long starter bolt or the flywheel housing. Bob |

According to the Service Bulletins should be .004" to .007"

Re: Growling noise when clutch is engaged
Get someone to hold the clutch pedal down, and then hand crank it slowly

Re: Growling noise when clutch is engaged
1. If the dowel pin retainer plate is missing then standard length flywheel bolts might hit the main bearing cap.
2. "Same same" problem if bolts are too long. |

Re: Growling noise when clutch is engaged
The noise started suddenly and only happens when the clutch pedal is pushed. It ran for years without an issue.

Re: Growling noise when clutch is engaged
Yes Slow process if in vehicle but can be done. 5/8 inch below the top of of the pressure plate collar, each finger. Is your clutch pedal adjusted correctly?

I’ll start a new thread on fixing the crankshaft end play. The pressure plate was way out of adjustment as well, at least I have another thing corrected. Thanks for everybody’s help. |
