40 pickup forward cab mounts
I was wondering if there are any 40 pickup guys on here that know exactly what the forward cab mounts purpose is. I am building a truck, it was in pieces so I don't know if I even need those. I see an exploded view in an older Drake catalog but they seem to be discontinued. I plan on doing a full body mock up eventually and I can get anything fabricated if there is a function there that I don't understand.

Re: 40 pickup forward cab mounts
Hello Fordy, welcome to the Barn.
You might need to be more specific. The cab mounts with four bolts each side. the rearmost three go through wooden spacer pieces, the front one on each side mounts directly to the frame. It ought to be obvious. The fact that you are asking might mean that you are referring to something else. Can you post a picture of what you are asking about? I put a post up recently that may help you put up a picture. Mart. |

Re: 40 pickup forward cab mounts
This, in the drake catalog it shows this piece sitting starting underneath the wood and forward a foot or so to the front most cab mount that is closer to the firewall area , so the two forward most cab bolts go through it, its a separate piece between the frame and the cab.

Re: 40 pickup forward cab mounts
I have spent time looking, but I can't find anything specific for 40 pickup on Drakes online listings.
What is the part number? Is it just some thin anti-squeak strip? For what it is worth on my pickups I used some thin fibreboard (less than 1/8") under those mounts. Kube on this forum is the expert. Mart. |

This is what the wood looks like.
The forward mounts are near where the X member joins the frame. No specific mount there as such. |

Re: 40 pickup forward cab mounts
Ok, I get it now. If your cab is in good condition, these are already part of the cab
structure. Only if they are rotted out would you need these replacement parts. Fwiw these areas were ok/easily repairable on both my 41 cabs. Mart. |

Re: 40 pickup forward cab mounts
Yeah I have front cab mounts on the cab, they are more of an L shape, I just sat the cab on the wood and those front cab mounts on the frame/end of wood area. Built the chassis like that. I just now found these listed on fordor as "Front Rocker Extensions Cab Mounts"

Re: 40 pickup forward cab mounts
I thought maybe it leveled the front of the cab out and possibly the running board rested on the piece that sticks out horizontal from the outer frame rail.
I think I will just have to do a full body mock up and see, maybe fabricate something if needed. I have a heavily modified coupe frame so I just want to make sure everything is going to be structurally sound. |
