Finally Some Good Minnesota Weather! But Some Annoying Issues...
As the title says, I'm glad to finally have some great weather so i can start up the ford. But, i always have a really annoying issue when starting up for the first time. I have to, first acquire another set of hands. Then create a seal around the top of the carb so it gets some suction to get some gas in the engine (while trying to start it of course). Could it be time for a carb rebuild? I think yes...

Just give it a shot of starting FLUID. It DON'T TAKE MUCH JUST BRIEF SQUIRT. Be sure to check oil & water before starting & in neutral.
I started up my 32 roadster let it warm up drove to pickup the mail & came back & shut it off & had lunch. Went back to the shop & most of my fresh anti-freeze was on the shop floor. I think the thermostat stuck & the pressure blew the top radiator hose off the radiator. What a mess. Have fun drive a lot. |

Your problem is most likely not the carb. but getting fuel to the carb.
I as well as others have installed an electric fuel pump near the gas tank to be used temporarily for first startup or after car has been sitting for a while. It has the added benefit in that it can be used in case the mech. pump fails. Also in case of vapor lock.

That is a common problem when the cars/trucks are not frequently fired up; gas will travel back from the carb & fuel pump. You can get a flex fuel line with a check valve in it to help prevent that and/or you can install an electric fuel pump to use as a primer. A little starting fluid or gas down the carb should get it to fire although you may have to do that several times before the fuel pump starts delivering gas to the carb. Get it started and have fun with it.
