Default Fitting

Can anyone tell me why a fitting with ferrules is used in the fuel line but a double flare compression type fitting is used in the brake system? Can they be interchanged? Thanks

I used standard 1/4 inch steel brake line for fuel line and it has worked great for the last 30 years.

I think they use the inverted flare fitting on brakes because of the high pressure in the brake system. Older fuel systems work at a much lower pressure. Newer systems (fuel injection) work at a higher pressure - not sure what these systems use.

You can use inverted flares in a fuel system. In fact, in my modified cars I do just that. You should not use ferrule/compression fittings in a brake system for the reason noted above.

The gas tank, fuel pump, carb and flex hose are all made to be used with ferrules. The inverted flare fittings on the brakes will not seat and seal in a ferrule fitting even if the threads matched which they don't. You could use adaptors on the above mentioned parts to inverted flare but that wouldn't make sense. G.M.
