I would get rid of that "fire hazard" regulator you have, pronto.
Below is the regulator I used, and as I said before, I put a small 10/32 threaded metal tube, with a small rubber hose pointing down, away from anything producing heat. I used this pressure regulator shown below, It uses the Holley (low pressure 1-4 #) diaphragm,12-804, which has a replaceable diaphragm too just in case you do need one in the future and they make the 12-803 which you can regulate up to 9 lbs.
