Out with the old, in with the new(er).
Hoping to add this machine in place of a couple of older ones the first week of August. It will allow for smoother flow of work and a little less set up time for the various jobs I do.
I'm also in the process of getting the OHV head going, the dual plug head, and 5 main blocks. I had the need arise for casting process change, or maybe I should say the "want" to change molding and coring processes. I had an idea the other night that will make the process more streamlined and save me time and money also. The idea will make the new blocks so much better that I can barely wait to make one with this new idea. In the mean time, I will push on with what all I have going. I'm kind of excited about some recent developments. |

Gee Tod, I get excited about a new spring spreader. I'd drop off in a swoon if I had that machine, whatever it does. I wish you the best of luck with your projects. An overhead 5 main engine would last me the rest of my life. Of course a glass of water may also. Thanks for keeping us updated. I am excited for you. Your success will certainly be success for the entire hobby.

I have 3 already but I need to replace 2 older machines so I am getting this one to replace the 2. Here is a video of a Mazak horizontal center. Not the machine I am getting but you will get the idea of what I do all day making parts for Snyder and myself. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=puEgowHmAqw Tod Last edited by Tod; 07-16-2017 at 11:11 AM. Re: Out with the old, in with the new(er).
Details for the newer machine have been worked out and it will be purchased soon. Friday, I sewed up final details for the Inductotherm 2 box melt system. It should be delivered next week.
There was a delay at the core shop on 5 main cores and the dual plug head cores but they will be back on track also. The OHV cores are in their hands and all I can do is wait. At first, my main concern with pouring castings will be to make my own castings as well as some for Snyder's that we have had a very hard time getting. As soon as possible, there will be time to pour outside work on a small scale. I have a couple of people that are potential customers and have not looked for additional work at this point. If anyone is aware of someone in need of castings have them contact me to discuss it. Tod |

I've seen "similar" machinery on, "HOW IT'S MADE"---TOTALLY amazing to see what MEN have designed!!!
My Brother-in Law, in the early '70s said, "With what we've designed in Solid State stuff, what we can do with it, is ONLY limited by our IMAGINATION"!!! Mike had a lifelong career @ I.B.M. Bill Flabbergasted

Tod, I envy you. The time I spent as an apprentice and journeyman machinist and tool and die maker, we were strictly hands on, that level of sophistication was only thought of, not yet in practice.
I could sit all day and watch those things run.

I can't even IMAGINE all the set up/adjustments/sharpening/maintenance/cleaning, of such sophisticated machinery!!!!

Re: Out with the old, in with the new(er).
Hey Tod, I saw your post on Facebook the other day, and am glad you were able to work thru the issues on your terms and finally get what you wanted.
Guys, not to steel Tod's thunder as this is exciting times for him but just to show you what is available out there, I demo-ed a Rottler machine at the PRI show last Fall. Wrap your brain around what these machines are capable of doing for engine rebuilders. Click HERE to watch the video of the Rottler F79, and be sure to pay close attention around the 3:35 mark in the video. . |

Thanks for the video link, Brent,
I think about when I helped Jerry lug an OLD Van-Norman boring bar onto a Lincoln Model K-V-12, IN THE CAR, & bore & sleeve one cylinder!!!---Took "FOREVER"---Jerry was the only Machinest in town who would tackle it! Bill W.

Re: Out with the old, in with the new(er).
CNC isn't just for the big shops anymore. I have a small 12x12 setup that I use mostly for my R/C hobby stuff. I've taught myself a little CAD, and a little G-code, and mostly cut G-10 or acrylic material. I'm mesmerized every time I watch it run.
