Re: c 69 flathead
A Canadian V8 closely similar to 59 series in this country. C for Canadian, 6 is 1946, 9 means 239 type engine.
I have never found one...I believe some may have had the wartime thick rod bearings, replaceable with normal floaters, some may have also had the wartime full flow filtering modification. |

Re: c 69 flathead
Also, they run the 8BA style valves, hardened valve seat inserts on exhaust only, no core plugs in the pan rails, super thick cylinder walls. Seems to me they were the very last development of the 59 series prior to the introduction of the 8BA style.

Re: c 69 flathead
That's interesting, the bulge on the bellhousing area for the oil pressure fittings is much larger than the normal 59a.

Re: c 69 flathead
Yes my last v8 a 47 got fitted with a c69A. It had 8ba styled rod insert bearings.

Re: c 69 flathead
Those 69's do not have 8BA rods; they are 29A rods, notched to take lock in shell bearings [thick ones], that are dimensionally the same thickness as the floaters you guys are familiar with. A lot of Canadian motors, both 221's and 239's ran lock in shell bearings. Conrods are either 21A or 29A, but with notches to take the tang of the shell bearing. Crankshafts have two holes per journal to suit.

Re: c 69 flathead
Same as Brian. The thick locking shells became hard to find so you could run floaters in the 29A rods or run 8BA rods and shells on the two hole crank which accounts for the mix and match over the years.Geoff

Re: c 69 flathead
The things that make them most desirable as the block of choice for big cube engines are the thick cylinder walls [which allow massive overbores], and the absence of intake valve seat inserts, [which allows one to fit BIG inlet valves]. I doubt there is a better hot rod engine.

Re: c 69 flathead
My C59A had the thick insert shells. I couldn't source replacements, so have had to fit floaters.
