Default 29 Tudor Upholstery question

I have the fabric material from LeBaron Bonney and I am getting ready (hopefully this week) to take everything to the upholstery shop to get the front and rear seats done.

My question is this: do I need to request the upholstery shop to use cotton padding instead of foam???

What are the pros & cons between cotton & foam padding???

Does anyone know how much fabric is needed for the seats AND for the side panels???

I have installed four L-B kits & always used the padding that comes with the kits installed over the clean original, or good quality replacement, seat springs. You need to have the tudor seats firm. The tudors I've ridden in aren't the most comfortable to begin with.

I'm OK with Tudor seats, but the Fordor is sure better.

I would never use foam.

I don't have the kits--just the fabric. So the upholstery place will need to supply the foam or cotton,

BTW if I want to use cotton, where would I purchase it???

I will look here in a little while to see how much I have left, but there is more than just cotton that you will need. As far as where to get it, you can make the 5 minute drive over the mountain to get some if I have enough. If not, Miami Corp in Charlotte is one place. Your local upholstery shop's supplier can get it for you also.

Agree with Tom in post 3. We've had cars with (synthetic) foam that disintegrated over time. Cotton breathes and some shops use muslin backing. Many original cars from the teens thru 30's we work on have burlap around the springs wrapped with muslin as well.
Michael's Art stores in our area have upholstery cotton batting.
