1933 floor pan replacement
I'm gathering as much info as I can for the floor replacement in my Cabrio before I get started on cutting out the floor. From what I can tell, it looks like I should build the floorpan on the bare frame, then lower the body onto the new pan.
I was given many parts of a floorpan, when I bought the car, and should have the basic pan, when I put them all together. I do need the sub rails and rockers. Who makes a quality reproduction ? Now onto the real question. What is the build up of the panels? Does the floor pan go down first, then the subrails on top of them? Does anyone have a good exploded view, or a book I can look to? photos? |

Re: 1933 floor pan replacement
Before you start cutting make sure you have the doors off and plenty of bracing (1" square tubing welded in) from several angles where the body does not move or lose proper alignment when you start cutting, especially if you have it off of the frame.

Re: 1933 floor pan replacement
Good advice. It's a bit outta whack now. The left side has spread in the door opening, the right ride still opens and closes nicely.

Re: 1933 floor pan replacement
If your new floor is not cut at the spot welds then aliment could be a issue ,lay the new floor out on the chassis with joins over lapping ,first repar any mounting points at the bottom of the A and B pillars then lower the body onto the floor & chassis .bolt the body through and around the wheel arches and at the bottoms of the pillars .clamp or screw it around the rear .mark the floor for cutting ,tack into place ??,You can drill through the floor edges so you can weld from underneath , thin into the thicker sub frame .That part you can get from Steve's restorations ,You may want to set up the hood and grill at that point .

Re: 1933 floor pan replacement
Get your doors PERFECTLY aligned and weld braces in place or you will have a big bag of worms later. G.M.

This is all the extra panels that came with my Cabrio when I bought it. I think the front floor is not good enough to reuse, but the center one is nice. Looks Like Bradley has a good replacement front floor. Does anyone know what the rear floor pan section is out of? |

Re: 1933 floor pan replacement
The big pan with part of the rear section looks to be from a 34 2d . You can verify this by looking at the 4 fore-aft stiffening ribs [ 2 0n each side ] of the diff hole . 33's are shallower and somewhat rounded and have braces underneath on the center two . 34's are sharper and deeper - no need for the braces . The crows foot pan will be like that . The rear segment that looks complete is from a 34 other than a roadster, phaeton or cabriolet . These body styles didn't have the crows foot .
