1933/1934 Sedan Floor Differential Inspection Plate Questions
Hello Ford Barn friends. I have what may seem to be a dumb question, but here goes: I have a '33 Ford Tudor Sedan body that I obtained a few years back. Very complete and solid, and it's soon to be mated to a complete and solid '33 chassis that had been parked since 1957 - yes it will be flathead powered. (pictures to follow - eventually) As I have been gathering parts for this project I am down to a few things that I am looking for - one being what I suspect is just a 'large round cover' that goes in a 'big round hole' towards the rear of the floor pan and over the differential. I know this sounds vague, but the open hole needs, and has some sort of cover. Is this part available anywhere? Is 33/34 the same? What's the official name for it? Repro'd or Oem - or is this an easy part to make? I haven't seen one, so don't know what to look for. Pics would be awesome, don't really want to just 'cut and patch' - would rather it be the correct part if possible, as the floor is original, virgin and nice for 80 years old. Wishing I would have looked closer at the floor of my '34 and compared before it went away. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you - Tim :-)

It should have 3 slots in it to take a wire circle with 3 protrusions for the slots .This all holds a canvas type cloth ,Some models have a metal cover

Re: 1933/1934 Sedan Floor Differential Inspection Plate Questions
Doing a little more searching online found a couple of repro ones that may or may not be correct on 'that great big auction site' and on some parts sites, though there doesn't seem to be any provision for retainers on them. Looks like the part # might be 40-700326-C - they say it fits 1933, 1934, 1935, 1936. Maybe this is just a 'press fit' item? Will check out my '36 coupe when I have the opportunity and compare. :-)

33 & 34 are the same. Mac's lists a repro in their catalog, but everytime I've tried to order one, they say they don't have it.
They are not flat - I've tried a flat home-made cover, and it does not work. The rear end hits it every time I drive over a bump. Originals are dome-shaped. I'm looking for an original, but in the meantime, I plan to make one, using the dome from a hubcap, or from a rear differential cover - maybe AMC corporate 20. |

FlatheadTed is correct the 33s had a canvas type material, cover held in place with a big wire clip that snapped into the slots, 34s had the sheet metal cover (like picture), spot welded in place, Could have been some cross-over between model years.

I seem to recall that the canvas covers were intended for models with rumble seats to make them a little more comfortable for passengers on bumpy roads. Just a thought.

Re: 1933/1934 Sedan Floor Differential Inspection Plate Questions
This particular car spent about 50 years in a barn in Alberta Canada, so it may be that it never had a metal cover, and the canvas one rotted away... Thank you for the info :-)

The metal cover was used on bodies without a rear or rumble seat, those with seats used the fabric and spring wire cover described above.

Re: 1933/1934 Sedan Floor Differential Inspection Plate Questions
This is a Sedan - which could explain why it 'appears' there was never a cover, at least not a metal one..... Would this be the same for Canadian as well as US? :-)

There was no difference in this regard between the Canadian and U.S. bodies.
