42-48 axles are wider than earlier models. I have a 48 coupe. both the front and rear axles are from a eailer car. The wheels are set in too far from the fenders, and I think it looks goofy that way. I plan to change both for the correct parts. I haven't found that the handeling is a problem, I just think it does'nt look right.

The specs for my '47 show two inches difference in the wheel base between the front and rear and it is all stock original.

Did your alignment guy have the true alignment specs for your car? Here they are:

I think you meant to say "two in. difference in tracking width.

As you see in the specs, they use the word "tread" to describe what I refered to as "wheel base" which is used more to refer to the distance between the front and rear. Tracking width is another synonym for "tread" in the specs. Hopefully you all can figure out what I'm really talking about.

All of this and more is in the Operator's Manual for these cars available for $7.75 for a repro here: http://macsautoparts.com/campaign_pr...S0R3CHL1071950

Or original new or used for more here: http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=....c0.m270.l1313

I think they're a must for any old Ford owner (or, should I say, owner of an old Ford to be politically correct ). It's amazing to me how much information was provided for the owner to fix and maintain his own car.

Isn't that the truth. The manual for my 47 COE has a wealth of information.
