Default Bendix bolts falling out

I have been reading a lot lately about the problems with Bendix bolts falling and the problems it creates.

So, after reading an article in "tiny tips" I wired up my bolts. I used a thin cut off wheel to make the groove in the top of the head and held down the wire with silicone.

Curious, why does the collar have all those numbers printed on it?

I think you are seeing patent numbers. If one uses good lock washers with properly bent the tabs, the bolts should never come loose. I've never had a problem and I like the stock Bendix drive.

I agree with Tom, I always use new bolt washers, with tabs, and have never had a problem with the bolts coming loose.

I havn't had any problems either---but i used NOS bolts and locks on a drive I found in the trash----if the bolts fit the threads loose they will work loose, if the locks are reused more than once the tabs aren't secure ---I guess it's time go go through it, it's been 45 years, time for clean and bushing relube

Everything said above plus, if you look at the 1st photo, the tab isn't even in the slot to lock it in. My OP, a dumb idea that if fixed right should not be an issue. The lock washers and bolts need to be the correct size for the Bendix spring used. The eyes in the Bendix springs are not all the same size.
