Default popping issue solved

JDL nailed it it was the vacuum advance . i replaced the carb with the correct 8BA unit,and replaced the bad vacumm advance unit ,i also regapped the plugs to .025 ,the engine purrrs like a kitten,took it for a spin and runs like a top never ran this well,thanks all this site have been a great help and i learn something new every day..al

A bad vacuum advance could cause a lean mixture. That will cause a poping condition. Glad you nailed it.

oldscool the problem is when you replace 2 parts of which either could be the problem you really don't know which one corrected it. Always change one part and run it before changing another part then you know what caused it. G.M.

well i had the wrong carb 46-48 ford carb no vacumm port and the vacumm advance unit was shot,so changing both was the only way
