Default McCullough Super Charger V/8 Ford

I just bought a McCullough Super Charger mounted on a Flathead V/8 intake manifold. I did not get the crankshaft pulley or the belt tension pulley. I will appreciate all comments and help. I see there are oil line hook-ups and cooling line hook ups. I really do not have a clue! I searched the internet and some other forums and there was not much information. There is a lot for Studebaker super chargers but not much for Flathead Fords. I have seen a few pictures but that is all.

Sturgis: What engine are you going to put this on?
I am putting one on a 35 21 stud. Have made most of the pieces as mine was not as complete as yours. We made the crankshaft pulley as well as the generator mounting bracket that puts the generator mid engine on the drives side. There use to be a site v57 that had a lot of information but I can't find it any more. I printed all the information on the site and could copy what I have and send it your direction. Send me a PM with your address. We also used truck double pulley water pumps on the 35 heads. Dave/Green Bay

I have one of those monsters. Working on a car now to put it in.

You have the 2nd year of production, probably an early 1938 one.

The numbers in your tag mean that it was built in 1938 for a Ford, 85 Horsepower (38F85)

This is a picture of what they originally came with. Finding the Triple crank pulley and water pump pulleys will be next to impossible.

Here is my 1937 McCulloch.

Here is a test fit on my 40 flatty before I installed the double pulleys.

The generator mounted further back on the head and ran off the rear pulley. I plan on using a double pulley generator as my idler arm to hold the belts tight.

This is a photo of an original install with the triple belts.

Haha. It looks like the Gourmet Cheesecake Company or Boz's Sports Bar and Grill will appreciate the monetary windfall!!

Sturgis 39 and Dave/Greenbay, I'll be in touch to kick this stuff around but it looks like my 39M or F is almost totally different than your McCulloch's. Check your e-mail. Ken

The 1937 and 1938 were different. In 1939 McCulloch started including the intake as well.

My theory is that the 1937 and early 1938s were for Ford cars with the water pumps in the front of the head. When Ford went to center outlet heads, they had to relocate how the supercharger was cooled, and where the generator bracket goes.

This is the earliest style that uses the stock Ford intake.

And the 1939 uses the McCulloch supplied intake, and a different water neck. Also the aluminum casting has an Arrow on top and the name plate is mounted to the side of the gear box, where the earlier is smooth with name plate mounted on top.

Has anybody installed a larger crankshaft pulley or a smaller pulley on the blower. A smaller pulley on the blower would increase the blower rpm and keep the water pumps running at the same speed. Just thinking or day dreaming.

I want to thank everybody for their replies. This going to be a fun project.

THANKS AGAIN

Kind of funny to come out in 37 and 38 for the head mounted water pump motor... but the 37+ intake... Seems you can't directly bolt these onto a 35 or 36 due to the extra height at the generator mount.... But you also can't use them direct on a 37 or 38 motor due to the water outlets in the heads interfering with the generator placement....

What all have you found as the differences in 37 and 38 models?

Did quite a bit of experimenting years ago. Don't have any numbers but not near what was advertised. I found a couple on some old 40s fleet flatbed trucks setting out in a field back in the 60s. Bought them, took them home and used one on a hotrod. Didn't care for it but today anything flathead nostalgia is hot......

I've got what I think to be an early 37 one and the gusset on the snout just behind the mount where the generator would normally go is a square plate. I've noticed on almost all of the other 37-38 style ones that the gusset is a triangle plate going from the front mount up to the snout.

Someone cut a chunk out of my square plate in the past to clear something, but I'm not sure what for. A heater hose? spark plug wires? Not sure.

I was told my McCulloch came out of a Hopped up 1940 Ford coupe that used to drag race around florida in the 50s.
