Default 1936 Ford Mechanical Brakes

A friend has a 36 Ford with mechanical brakes. Does the emergency brake apply the front and rear brakes or is something wrong?

Do not get me started on the stupidity of ethanol. I think one of the monitors is from Iowa and he will delete the thread.

Both the brake pedal and the emergency brake lever operate the brake cross shaft mechanism, and that in turn operates both the front and rear brakes.

Will the wide five brake drums from a 36 work on a 39 Ford with wide five drums with hydraulic brakes.

Front drum has wrong offset to swap with '37-9, rear drum was replaced in service by '37-9 so it probably swaps fine the other way too.

Bruce, how about the front wide five drums from 37-39 are they interchangable as well? Say a wide five front drum from a mechanical 37 and a wide five drum from a 39 juice, can they be swapped? How about the shoes?

'37-9 drums are interchangeable, both front ones and rears fit mech and hydraulics.
'37-9 rears are the service replacement for '36 rear, and the '37-9 front would be what you want when converting a '36.
Shoes would be different from hydraulic...entirely different brake design in there.
