Model "B" Engine Differences
In 1932 an “Improved 4-Cylinder Engine” was introduced for cars and trucks, and it remained in vehicle production through 1934. Buyers had a choice of the Improved 4-Cylinder engine or the new V8. The “Improved 4-Cylinder Engine” is designated as the Model “B” Engine, Part Number B-6005. The question arises, “What are the differences in the Model “B” engine versus the Model “A” 4-cylinder engine?” The following is an overview of the changes:
· Pressurized oil supply to the main and camshaft bearings; · Larger diameter main and connecting rod bearings; · Larger venturi carburetor with a power jet & transversely mounted float; · Carburetor oil bath air filters B-9625 & BB-9625 available thru service; · Intake manifold with larger internal diameter; · Slightly higher compression ratio cylinder head; · Lighter flywheel; · Improved camshaft; · Front engine cover with timing pin offset so timing is 19 Degrees BFTDC; · Distributor with an ignition timing adjustment for gasoline quality (octane); · Distributor with centrifugal timing advance; · Distributor cam with smoother transitions to lobes; · Distributor body with 1/8” decreased notch height; · Mechanical fuel pump; · Larger water pump impeller; · 3-bolt water pump attachment; · C4 Champion Spark Plugs with 0.030” gap; · Larger diameter B-6763-B oil filler pipe; · Thin-wall cylinder block casting technology; · Different exhaust manifold shape; · Oil pump with undercut shaft for increased oil flow; · SAE oils with a 1000-mile engine oil change interval; · Elimination of oil return tube; · Valve chamber with pressurized galley & larger valve cover; · Oil pan with flywheel housing attached & outward indentations in its sides to clear connecting rods.
