Default Ford 12 volt system

When did Ford go to a 12 volt system? When did Ford go to negative ground?

As I understand it, some of the early Ford cars equipped with electrical systems (starter, lights, etc.) were negative ground. Not sure when they switched to positive ground 6 volt but they did convert to 12 volt negative ground in 1956.

They went to positive ground in 1928, back to negative 1n 1956 with 12 volts.

Lights, starter, dont care about polarity.
if you have a heater motor if will care so switch the cables.

Ignition coil does care about polarity (it will work with less performance) but if you go 12 volt you will change the coil anyway.

The condensor i supposed care to but i seams to work anyway.
But its safer to change to one from a 12 volt negative earth 8 cylinder engine.

The reason i asked was because a guy on the hamb is having trouble with his 56 Ford. He said it is six volt positive ground. I said Ford went to negative ground and 12 volts in 55.

I'm positive (LOL) that they were still 6V in '55 - at least my F-250 was before converting it to 12V -ve.

Oh, and I fitted a '56 F-100 heater and that had a 12V motor.

The guy on the HAMB is positive it's a '56, and negative to the probability his car is actually a '55? ..B.

Ethanol is a political issue. It takes more energy to make than it produces. It increases food prices and propane prices for home heating. The mpg is less. We would be energy ahead to burn the propane in vehicles instead of spreading on the ground as fertilizer to grow corn. It has created a big government bureaucracy. Tax money is used to subsidies the program. The actual cost per gallon is about $22.00. It is like the alchemist using 1.25 ounces of gold to make one ounce of gold.

Of course it has polarity! Maybe not as much as water. But a lot more than gasoline. Geez, I thought everybody knew that. 8^)
