Default pop-out switch orientation

Hi folks,

Trying to figure out if the pop-out switch should have the key teeth oriented up or down for a 31.

Judging standards did not specify.

Searched the barn but could not find the answer.

What really got me confused is that a pic of an original 29 seemed to have the key teeth down, and a pic of an original 31 had the key teeth up! A little translation went into trying to determine this.......

My pop-out has the key teeth up.... which bugs me cause that just seems upside down! However, it may be correct.

I did not doubt the orientation until I saw the pic of the 29. Can anyone shed some light on this?

Thanks,

Scott

Can you post a picture of the popout

If you look at the picture in the Judging Standards (area 6)
look at the bezel the key teeth will be facing up.

Below is my Popout.

I believe most locks that don't face winter icing conditions are installed teeth down. When the weather is a factor (icing , freezing) locks are installed with the teeth up. This way the water can't freeze the pins in place.

If that's true, and I'm not doubting you, why wouldn't they install all keys in the up position "just in case" a car with down pointing teeth ends up in a winter wonderland?? And how would they know where a car was headed while on the assembly line? Very interesting...

I always thought having the teeth up is the more sensible way because the dirt wouldn't be falling into the pins.

Thanks guys. I went straight to 6-4 in the judging standards, which covers ignition switch and key but did not show a pic of the switch. I did flip around looking for a pic, but missed 6-1 which clearly shows the ignition switch with teeth up!

My popout is a new refurb from Mr. Crabtree - so I should have known it would be correct. Pic of the 29 got me worried.... but a lot of folks claim original when most likely it is not.
