Were any of the 40 sedan deliveries built as standards
All I have seen them as were deluxes but since they were officially trucks I would have thought they would have came as standards,I am going to build a model of one as a standard and was curious if they were ever made.

Re: Were any of the 40 sedan deliveries built as standards
Ford made a ' Standard, ' Sedan Delivery in 1939. They made a ' Standard ' Station Wagon in 1939 and 40, can't be sure about the Standard Sedan Delivery for 1940.

Ford offered only the DeLuxe Sedan Delivery for model year 1940.

Is there a chance what you had witnessed was actually a panel truck?

Re: Were any of the 40 sedan deliveries built as standards
This discussion is also on the HAMB, and a very knowledgeable Ford owner states that 740 standard '40 sedan deliveries were made, according to Ford archives. One is pictured that has been authenticated. Not trying to ruffle any feathers, but this subject is something I have also have been curious about.

I suppose the possibility exists that a few were manufactured but as memory serves (oh oh) I don't recall that being the case.

Re: Were any of the 40 sedan deliveries built as standards
The photo posted on the HAMB shows a profile shot, I'd like to see the front end. Regardless, without seeing the "documentation" a Standard grille and hood could have been added at any time.
The numbers I have access to show 4101 85 hp, 114 95 hp and 722 60 hp built, all Deluxe. The same source, Lorin Sorensen's "The Commercial Fords" has the production numbers for 1940 Panel Deliveries shown as incomplete. Two things come to mind- the 112" wheelbase Panel used the Standard car grille and headlamp doors both painted body color and also Sorensen (RIP) is considered to have been an excellent researcher. Could those 740 Standards have in actuality been 112" wb Panel Deliveries?

Re: Were any of the 40 sedan deliveries built as standards
The panel delivery type is be based on the commercial pickup which resembles the standard 1940 passenger cars to some degree but taller in the doors with the more pickup like cab. I think Budd made the bodies for this low production stuff. This leads to some of the confusion. The sedan delivery types were based on passenger cars which for 1940, would have been deluxe models. It would not be too God awful difficult to switch. Ford could be fickle about stuff like this so nothing would surprise me much. Maybe late 1940 and early 1941 models get mixed up.

Re: Were any of the 40 sedan deliveries built as standards
I know about the panel trucks with the pick up front sheetmetal that look like a 40 standard but was curious about the sedan deliveries, now were there any 39 deluxe sedan deliveries made.

Here is a photo of a 1939 Ford Sedan Delivery. They also made 1940 standard deliveries.

Re: Were any of the 40 sedan deliveries built as standards
No it was not a panel delivery, it was a sedan delivery. I'm well aware of the difference between the two.

Re: Were any of the 40 sedan deliveries built as standards
in the event someone has an incorrect sedan delivery.. Id gladly accept your inaccurate restoration and gladly restore it to its appropriate trim, whatever that happens to be..
I don't know if 40 standards were available.. and frankly I don't care.. 40 Deliveries are so cool no matter what clip they wear.

Re: Were any of the 40 sedan deliveries built as standards
Until an official Ford factory photo or even just a period photo of a 1940 Standard Delivery surfaces I'll stand by my statements.
