Default Early '28: Floor mat

Don’t blame a guy for trying ...
* The front floor mat for my Early 1928 vehicle is not being reproduced by current vendors.

* Based on the factory drawing, I plan to ‘make’ a front floor mat (see example photo).

* I plan to use the outside ‘frame’ (raised bead/flat area) of my current 'brake-handle-to-front' (wrong for my vehicle) reproduction mat by replacing the current ‘splatter’ pattern rubber with pyramid rubber material.

* I plan to use the Ford script oval from a vendor’s mud flap.

** To the point. I need to find the ‘circle’-shaped area (bead/flat area) that goes around the shift lever tower. I have seen this on some (not all) of the reproduction (‘brake-handle-to-right’) mats (see example photo).

It would break my heart (and run counter to my cheap tendencies) to cut up an intact (i.e., new) reproduction mat just to use this small ‘circle’ area. Thus my request: Can someone help me find a used/spare/flawed/torn/etc. reproduction mat (‘brake-handle-to-right’) from which I can salvage the ‘circle’ area.

Many Thanks for your patience with this detail-compulsive challenged hobbyist!

The A and AA floor mats were one in the same until the AA was fit with a 4-speed transmission in August 1929.

I produced accurate (I believe) floor mat drawing from Ford engineering drawings using a two dimensional drawing program (Visio). All of the information was for the AA's and was published in the Double A'er newsletter. This information was published on the AA Fords web site at http://aafords.com/aa-body-types/bod...-scuff-plates/.

Part A-35230 would be the mat for the 76-A, 82-A, and 85-A. This mat should also be for most other early A ch as sis bodies (I didn't research that).

The Visio files (.vsd) and the engineering drawing might be usable to develop a file for a 3D printer (just guessing).

The above pictured floor mat does not look the same at the engineering drawing.

Vince, is it possible that mat is one that Bill Sturm made?

Yes, Mr. Sturm made for A495.

For someone that considers his ability to post to FBarn a miracle in technology, I would love to see if this can be done! is the printer capable of making a material that is as pliable as the black rubber im familiar with?

The matt above was a very very expensive undertaking by bill. I saw the molds and it took quite an undertaking to get it right.

I would be happy to let my drawings of A-35230 mat be used for such a project as well as the Ford engineering drawing. The posted pictures are low resolution .jpg files from aafords.com. Original drawings are .vsd files (Visio standard output) with a scale of 1"=6". I see that I can save the .vsd files as .dwg and .dxf files also (I have no software to open these two Autocad files).

I can clean up the .vsd files by getting rid of excess text and produce a drawing with dimensions showing and one without dimensions showing (i.e. just the mat drawing). So, there things I can do on my end to help out the process.

Once it is determined what I should do, I can make the files and share them on my Box.com account.

I don't know what would be the best input for SolidWorks.

FYI - I have drawings of A-35230-B and C mats. Mat drawing of AA-82161-D is for 76-A, 82-A and 85-A with 4-speed. Mat drawing of AA-76230 is for 76-B & 82-B with 4-speed.

Are the molds still available??? If so, how many would have to be made to make it somewhat affordable? I sure could use one for my early 28 AA.

AutoCad provides a free drawing viewer. You can view and print AutoCad drawings but you cannot modify them. It can be downloaded at http://www.autodesk.com/products/dwg/viewers#

Frank, to my knowledge Bill did not use molds but instead cut and glued different pieces of rubber together to make an authentic looking mat.

I got to http://www.3ds.com/products-services...free-download/. But it looks like they have a 30-Day Trial. Is that what you use? Do you re-download every 30 days?
