Default weight of a flathead

I am trying to arrange the shipping of an engine that I just bought. What would be the approximate weight of a complete 59AB? Includes heads, intake, water pumps, fan/gen etc. No clutch or tranny.
I'm just guessing, about 1,000 LB's?
Thank you.

Just shipped a 107.3 pound Merc 3 speed non O/D trans from SoCal to Washington state via FedEx for just under $70.00 bucks which was cheaper than the buyer was quoted from Fastenal. Hate to think what a complete engine would be.

I called Fastenall to haul a '34 rear end for me from Idaho to Calif. They said they don't do hauls in California at this time. Their trucks are too full for extra freight. They could haul it to Reno and drop it off there. The cheapest guys I could find to haul it are over 400 bucks.

I had my flathead picked up by a Hamb member who was coming to Detroit for a show. Charged me 100. Put an ad out, somebody might be heading your way with room.

I agree with 19Fordy, I don't think they are near 1000 lbs. What state is the engine coming from? Perhaps like Vanspeed mentioned, you might find a member traveling that route.

Opps! Here's the correct weight of a flatty.
Also, don't forget the weight of the crate.

Hi Phil,
I had an engine shipped to New Haven CT from Buffalo, NY by Old Dominion Trucking for about $150.00 about 6 years ago. I had to pick it up at their depot but they loaded it in my pick-up. I don't know what their territory is.
Good luck!

Even the huge 337 flathead was only 850lbs or so.

Another funny tidbit is that the modern aluminum 4.2 Liter Audi V8 weighs 467 lbs. I guess Henry was right when he called the flathead a light-weight engine.

I think you could have an entire car shipped for that much.
