I need to know how long the bed skid strips are that hold the wood together in the pickup bed.
Thank You, Howard Dennis |

Re: 1928-29 Model A Pickup Info Sought
Thanks for taking the time to help me out. I was looking at an online deal on these listed for 28-29 Model A and hoped it would work on my 1917 Maxwell bed but thanks to your help I found out they are 2 inches too short so I guess I'll have to order custom cut ones.

Just a bit of trivia that you might find useful. Many of the old Ford guys use Mack Products, (660) 263-7444, wwwmackhils.com, for parts like bed strips.

Re: 1928-29 Model A Pickup Info Sought
Hi Perry,
My rails are installed and therefor the measurement might not be exact but it will give you an idea. Firstly, the C is about 13 mm OD and is not perfectly half round as in your sketch. They seem to be a little flattened. The flat part between the C's is 17mm but could only be measured from the top. W, in the sketch will be a bit more because of the thickness of the material. I would say W will be about 19mm. I hope that will be good enough for you to make a prototype. Regards Chris Cape Town |

Re: 1928-29 Model A Pickup Info Sought
Thanks, Chris. The dimensions sound right, it must have been 1/2" dia with 3/4" flat between the C's. Most helpful -- will keep you posted on my restoration. This is happening in Bangalore, with a roadster pickup that has even most of its screws original (Robertson head), but some parts like the bed wood has been changed over the years.

I also need to fabricate the hinges that support the tailgate, and the hook and chain. Oh how I wish parts ordering could be simple and quick -- I guess I would have to import them from the US . Much quicker to fabricate them here.
