Default 1953 Mainline gas tank size

I am asking this on behalf of my father who has the car. Any idea what size gas tank (gallonage) would have been stock on a 1953 Mainline business coupe? Thanks in advance

in the 18 gallon range as I remember it and at one time has a 53-54-and 55. Currently I have a 52 and it holds 18 gallons and is the courier (sedan Delivery)

Osubuki,

Your father's fuel tank capacity is 16.6 gallons. Ray, the Sedan Delivery tank is 19.3 gallons.

I had the tank cleaned and coated and took it to the station on a trailer and had gas in the neck at 18.3-Thats the original tank so maybe old age shrank it--LOL Any way we are in the ball park

Must have been the extra thick coating.

ken thats possible but it was more like a cadium coating and not the slosh stuff that you can buy from eastwood. No leaks just varnish and trash. I know as tanks age and sag a little they will hold a little more gas so who knows? I just got a new 46 ford car tank and its a Drake special but haven't installed it yet but its my last one for a long time--I hope!!!!!!!

You took the tank to the station on a trailer? How are you going to lift it to put it in the car? ROFLMSAO
