The Ford Barn

The events of last Saturday transported me back to my teenage years. It was a nice trip down memory lane to say the least. Saturday started out as it usually does, with a ride up to meet the guys for our “hot rod” breakfast. This time Steve road along with me in my ’39 CS. When we got to the Restaurant (that is the actual name of the place) we spent some time outside kicking tires and telling lies… Mike showed up with his ’41 BC and, after breakfast I followed him to another friend’s house, to check out his build progress on a ’30 Roadster Pickup. When we got back on the road, a six lane highway (headed to my house), I pulled up alongside Mike at a red-light and said “want to run?” Well, that was all I needed to say. At the green we both took off, winding up first he had me by a fender however, I was able to actually pull ahead of him in second but he did catch and pass me once we both had shifted into high, I think he had the weight advantage… It was, for all intent and purposes, a slow-motion drag race by today’s standards but for that brief moment I was transported back in time to my High School daze… These Flatheads are more to me than cars, they are actual time machines and they prove it to me every time I fire one up.

Ah yes, the sound of a pair of flatheads blasting away from the light. Nothing like it.

And the nice thing about a flathead race is you have a lot of acceleration time to enjoy it!!
