Straight pipes Question???
I just put a set of Fenton Headers on my 40 Ford Coupe and I must say they went on with EZE! Now I want to run just straight pipes. Do most of you guys run the pipes through the frame or under it. Thanks, Jim

Re: Straight pipes Question???
Mine - '46 Sedan - run through the frame, but the car sits lower than stock. Good luck.

Re: Straight pipes Question???
On my 40 Ford I run them "thru". It's a pretty tight fit on the driver side as the depressed clutch wants to hit the exhaust pipe. I also used FENTON headers. However, I use mufflers.

Re: Straight pipes Question???
The 34 had home made duals on when I bought it some years back. I purchased a set of headers from REDS & used the mufflers that were on the car when purchased. They looked different & had a number stamped in them. I googled the number & it came up porsche 944. They sound ok so I'll leave them till they wear out than I will most likely get a set of brockmans.

Re: Straight pipes Question???
Hi Jim, My 41 has Fenton headers and the right side outlet lines right up with the frame hole. On my 34 I have Reds headers with two pieces of conduit going straight back on each side... Straightpipes.....Did you decide to keep the 40? Butch

Re: Straight pipes Question???
I have decided to sell the 40 and thought I would finish up the exhaust system. I think selling it as a Ready for the Road car would make it sell better. Jim

Re: Straight pipes Question???
Yes running/driving cars always sell easier than projects. I am at that stage with my 31 Chevy. I want it to be reletively done, but they can still tinker with it. Exhaust can be inexpensive if you go with aluminized pipe, I am sure that you can find a good local shop to do the work, unless your good with bends and a welder.
Most of the 40's I have seen done go through the openings in the frame, I would think 2 inch would work fine. |
