$43,000
The bidding almost looks like a mistake - $43,000?
Lot # : 4 - 1934 Ford V8 Pick Up Truck. Presented is an original 1934 Ford V8 Pick Up Truck. From the Paul Hedburn estate, the truck was in the process of a bottom-end engine rebuild at the time of his death. The engine will require completion of the rebuild but is complete. A more original rust-free example would be hard to find or duplicate. http://morphyauctions.hibid.com/lot/...=2&ref=catalog Matt |

Re: $43,000
I do not think this was a mistake. I heard about this truck from a few people, and seems like it is likely one of the nicest originals around

Re: $43,000
hindsight is a marvellous thing, who would have thought that 6cyl holden engine parts would be scarse in Australia, but already some bearings and stuff are hard to get,as well as std blocks,
Same with our old fords ,they were just cheap old cars once. Lawrie |

Re: $43,000
All it takes are two bidders who want the thing real bad to drive the price up. Bet the winning bidder has buyer's remorse and from the losing bidder, a big sigh of relief.

Re: $43,000
Even so, a $43000 bid is awfully high.

Re: $43,000
Beautiful '34 pickup. It would be hard pressed to find another in that condition, original.
$43K seems a bit steep to me too but somebody else was wanting it pretty badly and they bid right up to that money, so I guess it was worth that much to at least two people! Nice '34 I love it! |

Re: $43,000
That is the psychology of auctions. You can get some good deals, especially late in the auction, but as was said, all it takes is two bidder. I was interested to see that they thought it would bring 10 - 15.
They talked about it being a rare truck as they were phasing out 4 cyls in 1934, but this is a V8, so what was that all about? |

Re: $43,000
In my experience auctioneers have a habit of giving low estimates to encourage potential buyers to attend the auction.
What it made is what it's worth. Besides, a fabulous looking, beautifully patinated truck |

Re: $43,000
Tiger.1000, that thought crossed my mind.
There was a partially restored A roadster in an auction near me a few years ago. I could not attend, but put in a bid remotely for around $2,500. It sold for just over what I put in. Who knows how far it would have gone had I been there, but I think the buyer got a real bargain. |
