Supporting trans w/o engine in car
I need to pull just the engine out of my car for repairs. I plan to leave the trans and bell housing in the frame. With the engine out, I will need to support the engine so I can move the car to another shop for work. Does anybody have a method for supporting the trans safely without damaging anything while allowing for me to put the car onto a trailer for travel.
Thanks |

Re: Supporting trans w/o engine in car
I used a 2 x 4 from door to door and a 1" ratchet strap to support the tranny. Cheap, quick and easy support.
Here's a thread with my picture of the tranny support. https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showth...tranny+support Last edited by Tom Wesenberg; 02-06-2016 at 09:53 PM. |

More work, but you......
Could remove flywheel housing from motor. Leave bell housing on trans. Bolt the bell housing to the flywheel housing and bolt the flywheel housing to the motor mounts. |

Re: Supporting trans w/o engine in car
Here's another tranny hoist tool I made to lift and hold the tranny. I also made an aluminum cover plate and handle to keep junk out of the tranny and to make it easy to lift.

Re: Supporting trans w/o engine in car
In the 1960's I would use coat hanger wire through the bolt holes, on each side of the bell housing.

I did something similar to Tom's work but used an all thread that I bent into a "U".
