Default Fordomatic torque converter seal part numbers

Hi.

I'm after a part number for the fordomatic bolt together torque converter impeller hub seal. I have the number for the larger seal that seals the ring gear plate. B6A-7963.

This converter has two seal and I'm looking for the part number for the smaller of the two.

Thanks in advance guys.

Cheers

Geoff

If it is a 6 or 8 air cooled, it is 1P 7916-A (4 1-4" OD).

What exact model do you have?

Thank you.

I can't remember the trans number but it's a medium case fordomatic from a 56 tbird.

At sometime in this cars history it had it's motor and box swapped out for a 56 tbird.

It may or may not matter concerning the seal but if it does...
During the '56 model year the transmission & torque converter changed from being air-cooled to fluid cooled.

The fluid cooled transmission has a pair of steel tubes from the passenger side of it going forward and connecting to the bottom of the radiator.

The air cooled version has a bellhousing that looks like this one, with a pair of large rear facing air vents on each side...

It matters if air or water cooled. Maybe find the ID and post it? The trans could be out of anything.

If it is out of a BIRD, it will be a mid-case MERC-O-MATIC.

Let me try this again. The gasket (7916) is used only with the ALUM IMPELLER, so if it is air-cooled, there is only one choice -

But, it would be advisable to ID the TRANS if hard parts are ever needed (IMO).

Can you imagine trying to find one of those air cooled converters? If you have one, I guess you could to try to send it to borg-warner. I had a 63 Bonneville that had the toros unit, and it exploded internally. What a mess!
