Question Control Arm Pins:

At the bottom of the steering column the control arms are held on the throttle and spark arms by a small pin that goes through the holes on the control arms and rods. It is my understanding that the pins need to be peened over so they stay in place.

My question is how do you do this. What do you put behind the pin to buck it while you a peening the other end over.

Thanks,
Jon

If it is not a fine points vehicle, I would use "split pins" (roll pins). You might want to dab the open ends with JB Weld to cover up the open ends.

Position them so you can get to both ends of the pin at the same time. Most anything can be used to buck against the pin as the force needed to peen the ends is relatively small. A small punch hit with a small hammer will do the job quite nicely.
