Reballing steering arms
Does anyone know who can install new balls on steering arms for a '34 BB? From what I can tell, the arms are the same as AA, except for the pitman arm. It looks like Snyders has the double arm for an exchange, but the single arm is out of stock. I have yet to talk to Snyders to see what they say. I posted this in the V8 section to see what they say too.
Thank you, Red |

Re: Reballing steering arms
If any of you guys are wondering, Snyder's no longer reballs the big truck arms, Berts does not currently do the big trucks as the guy they use is a few months behind, and Brattons does not offer the service either. I may call Tams to see what he says. Any other ideas?

Re: Reballing steering arms
You might be stuck having to have someone weld it up and file it down.

chrs1961815-
I really hope it doesn't come to that. J Franklin- I do, but I was hoping to have someone do it that has done it before and is familiar with the process. I talked to Joe at Tams and it sounds like the guy he sends them to may be able to do it. We'll see. Red |

Re: Reballing steering arms
NOTE: Schwalms is a Model A Engine builder. They re-balled the spindles and honed the kingpins for both of my Model A’s. No problems.

Re: Reballing steering arms
IMO, I would prefer a welded ball or a sleeved one to a new one that was welded on. Reason being is that there is just too much risk if the weld was bad or not sufficient enough. Preserving the original shank circumvents this possibility.

Re: Reballing steering arms
The drilling-thru the arm and using a ball stud is not my preference. Weakens the entire assembly
Fly-cutting the old ball off and leaving an upright shaft is the best. A ball that has been drilled, press fit and welded on top is best IMHO |
