My 1935 Cabriolet in "HEMMINGS CLASSIC CAR"
I have to brag a little bit on my '35 Cabriolet.
It is featured in the May 2015 issue of "HEMMINGS CLASSIC CAR". It is featured, not because it is a mintly restored car, but because it is a rare survivor. If you are in the store, thumbing through magazines, check out pages 44,45,46 & 47. MIKE (mikeburch) CLICK ON PHOTOS TO ENLARGE |

Congratulations Mike! That car is awesome and so are you for keeping it the fine survivor that it is.
ps...Mike, don't forget my long standing offer to trade you one of my '35's, plus some mutually agreed upon % of my lifetime savings for that beautiful '35 Cabriolet survivor

Great car, great story. Read it this morning. The stories and the opportunity to see these survivors is the reason I subscribe to magazines like Classic Car. Enjoy your beautiful '35.

Re: My 1935 Cabriolet in "HEMMINGS CLASSIC CAR"
Loved the story. Have one question, has the right hand cylinder head been changed at some point ? I noticed it had a prefix # 40-6049 and I thought 35 was a prefix of 48 and a pickup was 50 then the number ?

Not to highjack this thread but here is a picture of my good friend's 54 Mercury that is in the Hemmings 2015 calendar. This car was also featured in Hemmings Classic Cars last year. He is very sick and a few prayers for him would be nice. Thanks

Very nice car Mike. You should be very proud of your Survivor 1935 Ford. Can't wait until I get my copy of Hemmings Classic Car in the mail so I can rear all about it. |

The Black-Wall tyres suit this car. It just wouldn't look right with White-Walls.

Re: My 1935 Cabriolet in "HEMMINGS CLASSIC CAR"
Mike your1935 Ford V8 cabriolet is certainly a beautiful car, and I always liked the rare 1935 Ford V8 models as they were the last models of the Ford V8 that were imported fully assembled into New Zealand by Colonial Motor Company who were the distributors for Ford at that time, before Ford started their own Seaview assembly plant in Wellington N.Z. in 1936, and distributed them to the dealers themselves, and that is why there was so many 1936 models in N.Z.

Re: My 1935 Cabriolet in "HEMMINGS CLASSIC CAR"
Here are two 1935 Ford Cabriolets that have found their way to Australia. Ford Australia never offered the Cabriolet for sale here, so these are recent imports. They are great looking cars. Pity that we never got them. |

I, surely, want to thank everyone for their nice comments about my 1935 FORD Cabriolet !
The photos seem to make the car look pretty minty, but you can see more "warts", in person. I appreciate seeing all the additional photos, too ! Thanks again, MIKE (mikeburch) Last edited by FL&WVMIKE; 03-18-2015 at 12:11 PM. |

I spray-can painted the wheels, back when I first bought the car. They were pretty drab. Back in those days, you just weren't too particular. From memory, while at the auto store, the can looked to be similar to the green of the stripe. It is not too far off. One wheel did get a streak of blue in it. I guess that I didn't shake the can enough. I will re-paint then, someday. Thanks, MIKE (mikeburch) |

Mike I was in the airport and I picked up the Hemmings Classic Magazine for something to read on my trip to Kauai and I enjoyed reading about your car nice to see that you left it original. The article on the 1940 Lincoln V12 was also a good read…..

Dad passed a year ago, and I'm leaning towards selling this car, and keeping the '34. It's not quite as nice in person as the pictures show, but it's a true survivor... and still has the original interior, which as far as I know, there is no true reproduction parts for. The car is definitely a driver, and I was hauling the kids around Daytona in the rumble seat this summer. Thanks! |

Re: My 1935 Cabriolet in "HEMMINGS CLASSIC CAR"
Carnuut, the 35 5w coupes are not that difficult to find, IMO. When I was looking for a '35 3w coupe, I probably found them in a 3 or 4 (5w) to 1(3w) ratio. I finally gave up on a 3w and bought a nice 5w, only to have good deals start pop up on 3w coupes.

Fordbarn should have a listing of our members who have passed away. A way to "retire their number" so-to-speak and as a memorial to those who have contributed and enjoyed this hobby as we all do. If one wishes to do so of course.
