This is a flathead ford site or early ford stuff.

Re: Anybody have a V6 on here!?!?!
I'm sure he means that he has the great flat 6 that came in his 49 Ford.
I've never had one but have heard great things about them. There are some speed compnents available for them and they are easy to build. Somebody made aluminum heads for them as well.Keep your eyes open for one of those as it will be an eye popper when opening the hood! Love your tag linie as well. I'm sure you will do a great job on your car at your age. Keep up the hard work. |

Re: Anybody have a V6 on here!?!?!
I have a Buick V/6 in a 34 FG roadster. It had a 49 or 50 engine with screwed up clutch and shifting so I pulled it out and put in the V/6 with an automatic trans. The V/6 has plenty of pep and you can hang it in and adjust it back and forth to sit just where you want it to clear steering, radiator etc. I would rather is was a Ford engine but we had this engine so used it. This is an old picture after it was dropped in before the fan was installed. G.M.

I think this youngster needs some education in ford flatheads,No V6's in the flathead line.Do some reading son and welcome to the bunch.ken ct. Yes that is a hi-compression head for a straight 6 cyl flat head and 2 stock carbs on there. ken ct.

Re: Anybody have a V6 on here!?!?!
Ken, Stop being a smart ass! I'm sure you didn't know everything you needed to know at 14. Maybe you never had kids either. This is a normal 14 yr old...Wait, I take that back. most 14 yr olds are watching video games. I for one am glad to see a youngster taking an interest in our hobby, but it's attitudes like yours that can easily drive him away.
If you have something helpful to say, than say it, otherwise keep your mouth shut and go educate yourself on teenagers! |

Hey let's keep this civil here. No bubble bursting.
Yea that silver cap is where you put the oil. Post up some pictures of your I6 and the car when you get a chance. What are your plans? Does it turn over? Have you done a compression check? |

Hello 1949FORD...Welcome! MOST of the folks here WILL NOT "slap you around". You seem to be quite polite and inquisitive in your posts. It's quite refreshing that you seem to be a young man wanting to share and gain knowledge here, WITHOUT the "know-it-all" attitude and WITHOUT a chip on your shoulder. Seem like you're bright enough to overlook the occasional negative, egotistical reply. Sure do like your ride. DD

Most of the plans we have is restoring it to orig. condition. yea it turns over, and we need to do compression check.

They know their shit, and if they dont someone will be right behind them straightening them out.. Before this gets deleted take a second and consider all these men on here as you Father or your Uncle... There is a ton of knowledge and they can help you.. and want to help you... I am young and didnt shiznit about flatheads a year and a half ago.. Now I know them almost as good as any other V8 (or V6) I ever worked on.. Tom.. |

Man!
I am SO ON YOUR SIDE! Don't take any Flak from some of these old timers! Keep playing with your Ford. Call it a V6 or anything else you want to. BTW I've been 55 for 7 years now and the post with the picture of the finned cylinder head for the inline six is the first one I've seen. Goes to show even old guys don't know as much as they think they do! Give 'em Hell, Kid!! |

Re: Anybody have a V6 on here!?!?!
We bought it from a guy who had to move out to far Western Minnesota for work. But heres an interesting thing, the orig color is Sea Mist Green, but its painted black with a stencled "1949" on the back of the trunk. Any info on that? Was it an owners thing, or somthing special?

Re: Anybody have a V6 on here!?!?!
Do you mean the trunk of the car, or the bellhousing/block of the engine?
If it's on the bellhousing/engine. My guess, The engine maybe a rebuild or replacement engine and the place that had it had a lot of blocks and they did that to identify the different engines. I've never owned a flat 6er but I think they look great and would be a good motor to work on. A lot of the basics will be similar to a v8. Air+fuel+spark. Make a list or form a plan of attack. Get it running and more importantly stopping. Did you say that you have tried to start it? |

Re: Anybody have a V6 on here!?!?!
Sounds like fun to me. My best friend in High School (back in the '60's) had a '51 F-1 with an I-6 in it. We had a lot of fun with that truck but we blew up the original I-6 driving home from the beach on a day we cut class... Enjoy the car, have fun with it! Vic

Re: Anybody have a V6 on here!?!?!
Well, your further along then I was thinking. I thought this was a barn or field car.
Hey all I can say is, walk before you run. Get it running very well on one, then add the 2nd. If it's running great now... then what the heck. I'm a believer in doing a compression test. This will tell you a lot. Given good compression, I say why not. I think you'd probably get more out of a high compression or milled head though. Last edited by Tinker; 11-04-2011 at 12:40 PM. |

Re: Anybody have a V6 on here!?!?!
I owned a 51 Ford custom 2 dr sedan when i was a young man and it would out run a V8 on the road. It was completely stock and i got 12 miles to the gallon. I got it from a older ladie who bought it new. I ran it as hard as anyone could and i never had it overheat, blow a headgasket, or crack a block like a V8. Marv

Re: Anybody have a V6 on here!?!?!
I have lots of flathead powered cars but couldn't resist putting this 4.3v6 in my model A truck. It fit like it was made for it, no cutting of the firewall or floors, and has a ton of power. The flatheads sound better though.

Winter is a great time for working on mechanicals, especially if you have only minimal heat and want to make some progress. If you have ample heat, you can even do body work. Rust repair can be done in the cold too.

Never heard a bad thing about the Ford flat head 6's. My father-in law had one in his '49 woody and except for boiling over one night on my then unknown wife to be ( and is) it just ran and ran and ran. I presently have a neighbor with a flathead six '48 club cpe. A real runner and pretty too.
