Re: To flathead c4 speedway adapter
Not sure about Speedways..but since you're considering a C4 behind a flathead, I'd recommend Flat-O-Matic out of Oregon.
I used Genes (Flat-O-Matic) quite pleased with it, been in my '40 now for several years.

Re: To flathead c4 speedway adapter
I'm installing a Speedway C4 kit behind a 8BA this morning. Only draw back is a little grinding on the block for the starter to clear. Everything bolted together good. I'm putting this in a customers Model A chassis I built. Looks good together. I've done a Flat O Matic kit which also worked good.

Re: To flathead c4 speedway adapter
I have the flat o matic kit and its pretty nice stuff, but havent installed it yet
Speedways stuff is knockoffs of other peoples stuff. Most of its OK but some of its pretty bad |

I like the speedway adapter for installing the AoD Trans. The overdrive is very useful.

Re: To flathead c4 speedway adapter
Ford has 2 bell housing large and small 6 bolt. I used the small in my 39 ford and if you have trouble finding a c4 you can use one from 6 cylinder like a 80 Granada.
Best thing you can do for a good trans. |

Re: To flathead c4 speedway adapter
I used Speedway’s adaptor for an AOD on an 8ba. Easy install with a little grinding for the starter. No issues or anything bad whatsoever.

Re: To flathead c4 speedway adapter
After doing this install and having the block ground for the stock Ford style starter, I'm thinking why don't they use a Powermaster gear reduction starter which can be clocked for clearance and is smaller?

Re: To flathead c4 speedway adapter
I used the Powermaster mini starter on mine and it worked perfect. Also no more Bendix spring.

Re: To flathead c4 speedway adapter
I am very happy with Ford Truck 12 volt starter. No big deal on grinding. Some don’t require grinding.
