Default set the timing on the 239 ohv v8 - 1954

Quick question - anyone know how to set the timing on a 239 OHV 1954 ford - where there are no marks on the cam or timing chain -

Engine had complete redo - no marks on chain or the camsproket

the question was not that clear - it is how to install/set the chain in relation to the cam sproket/ with no marks on either the chain or the sproket.....

there has to be a mark some where either that or the gears are on backwards

no color no nothing - i did see at http://www.ford-y-block.com/assemblyerrors.htm

but would be curious to know if someone else has tried and what the results were.

Timing gear installation. Some people try to align the timing marks on the gears toward each other as is common on newer engines. This is bound to happen more often now as the replacement timing chains no longer have the pins marked for correct alignment with the gears. The marks on the Y-Block timing gears aim toward the oil filter side with 12 pins between them.

thanks

You can time any engine, #1 in TDC. Camshaft is set between the valve over lap on the same cylinder.
