Brakes big shoe in front or back

Have read several posts on which show goes in fron on the hyd brakes ,,35 using 39 backing plates ,,removed drums today,small shoe in front!,these are Lockheed brakes according to motor old manual,,several guys say large shoe in front,Bob Drake shows a picture in his add and say short shoe in front!!!
My brakes were not very good is why I’m checking them,cyl were all bad and leaking also,going to replace all and MC also,should I go with the ss lined at speedway or the cheaper ones,, thanks
All I have to do now is be able to get up and down to do the work at 85yr young things get slower...
